About this place
For a drink after work, a small plate of stew could be just the thing. Beef sukiyaki-style stew is listed among Empa’s popular dishes, and a visitor also recommended the stewed dishes. One diner in Momodani ordered pork chashu, Himeji-style oden and takoyaki. They said the oden came with ginger soy sauce, and that making the takoyaki themselves was part of the fun. Pork chashu and takoyaki also appear among the daily specials.
Other daily options may include pan-fried yam, grilled sweet potato served with ponzu, and an assortment of cheeses. That makes it easy to put together a meal of several small plates, or settle in for an evening centred on a stew. Drinks include draft beer and medium bottles, as well as taru highballs in plain, lemon, grape or Calpis flavours, and sweet-potato or barley shochu. Green tea and oolong tea are also available for those who don’t drink alcohol.
One visitor noted that, despite the standing-bar sign, there were chairs, and the restaurant is also presented as a good option for dining alone. This izakaya in Momodani 1-chome is a place to enjoy small plates indoors.
